Team GPS on the Office Map: Knowing Where Every Cleaning Team Is
A customer calls at 10:40: “Is the team still coming this morning?” Without a map, the office texts the team lead, waits, gets a reply from a phone held with a rubber glove, and calls the customer back. With a map, the office looks, sees the team two homes away, and answers while the customer is still on the line.
Where the Team Is, While They Work
The time clock records when cleaners are working, as covered in The Time Clock in the Cleaning Team App: Clock In, Lunch, Breaks and Clock Out. Team GPS shows where.
While the team is working in the MaidBossPro team app, their location shows on the office map. The office sees each team on the same map that shows the day's homes and the Waiting List of one-off jobs still to book, so it is easy to see who is where and which homes are still ahead of them.
What the Office Uses It For
In a cleaning company, team GPS answers a handful of everyday questions:
- “When will they get here?” The office can see the team and their remaining homes, and give the customer a real answer.
- “Who can take this?” A same-day move-out or an urgent touch-up comes in. The office sees which team is closest and has room in its day.
- “Did they make it?” A team is quiet and the first home has not been started. The map shows whether they are stuck in traffic or already parked out front.
- “Who is near the supply run?” A team is out of a product. The office sees which other team is near enough to bring some.
Combined with Start, Skip and Complete, the map gives the office a clear picture of the day without a single check-in call.
The Customer's Map Uses It Too
Team GPS also feeds the customer app's live route map: “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.” Customers see the team getting closer, which answers “what time?” before they pick up the phone. Paired with automatic on-the-way and arrived texts, it takes most “where are you?” calls off the office's plate.
Explaining GPS to Your Cleaners
Some cleaners are uneasy about location tracking, and it is worth talking about openly instead of turning it on quietly. A few points help:
- Say why. The map is for answering customers, finding the closest team for a new job and making sure everyone is safe, not for watching every minute.
- Say when. Location shows while the team is working in the app. Be clear about how your company expects the app to be used during the workday.
- Say who sees it. The office sees the team on the map. Customers see the team's progress on their route map.
- Use it fairly. If the map ever leads to a hard conversation, start with a question, not an accusation. Traffic, a supply stop or a long deep clean explains most surprises.
Teams that understand the map tend to like it. It means fewer “where are you?” texts from the office while they are elbow-deep in a shower.
Safety Has a Place Here Too
Cleaners often work in homes alone or in pairs, in neighborhoods they do not know, sometimes at the end of the day when the street is quiet. Knowing the office can see where the team is gives many cleaners peace of mind. If a team lead texts the office that something feels off at a home, the office knows exactly which home and who is nearby.
Keep the practical side simple: phones charged, a car charger in every vehicle, and a clear rule that anyone who feels unsafe at a home can step outside, tap Skip with a note, and call the office. The note should say what happened plainly so the office can decide what to do about that customer.
Making the Map Reliable
GPS only shows what the phone can report. A few habits keep the map accurate:
- Keep the team app open and signed in during the workday.
- Allow location access for the browser when the phone asks.
- Keep phones charged; a dead phone drops off the map.
- Remember that weak signal can delay updates, covered in Poor Signal at a Cleaning Job: What the Team App Needs and How to Plan Around It.
The Office Sees the Day
Team GPS turns the office map from a list of addresses into a live picture of the company at work. Customers get real answers, new jobs go to the closest team, and teams get fewer check-in texts. To see how the map fits with the rest of the team app, visit the MaidBossPro maid service app page.
